Here’s to the year 2021! Let’s make it the best we can and be the best versions of us that we can be!
Did you know?
January is the National Blood Donor Month. Every year 120,000 are saved from a donation of blood. However on average 38,000 donations are needed each day. If you are able to donate find a location and give.
January 11 - National Human Trafficking Awareness Day in the United States. Statistics show that approximately 27 million adults and 13 million children worldwide are victims of human trafficking.
On January 1, 1863, the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by Abraham Lincoln. This was to end slavery in at least 10 states. Also during this time (Civil War) is when embalming became more popular in the United States.
The flower symbol of January is carnation. It is said that carnations appeared on earth as Jesus carried the cross and bloomed where Mary's tears fell to the ground. It is also the traditional funeral flower in France and is claimed to be bad luck there as well.
Thank You Month. You can never give enough thanks to friends, family and those around you. Which leads to the next...
The month of January is known as Mentoring Month. I can't begin to thank all of the people who have mentored me. Especially Bob Greene which has made a major impact on my life and is constantly teaching me. I will forever be grateful to him! I am blessed to work with a team like we have Carman Funeral Home.
March was the original first month of the year.
January is National Soup Month in the United States. Who doesn't love soup? Even better you can share soup with those you love during these cold months. Below is a favorite soup of mine!
Cheesy Potato Soup...
1 onion, chopped
2 tablespoons butter
6 potatoes, peeled and cubed
5 cups water
2 cups milk
1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed cream of chicken soup (of course Campbell's)
1/8 teaspoon pepper
12 ounces process cheese (Velveeta), cubed!
Any other seasoning that you like!
In a cooker, saute onion in butter. Add potatoes and water. Bring to a boil. Lower heat; and let simmer until potatoes are tender. Stir in the milk, soup, garlic salt and pepper; heat through. Add cheese (the best part); stir until cheese is melted.
January 1st, 1776, the first American flag, the "Grand Union" was presented. Later Betsy Ross we back and added the stars!
I truly hope that you and yours have the best year ever! Make the best of it! You are really loved!
Until next time Life, taxes and...
Josh
